Identifying a Microflect or Valmont Structure

Standard Valmont Microflect Tag
When requesting information about an existing structure (such as original drawings or a re-analysis), it is helpful if we are provided with key information, which allows the rapid identification of the structure. Since the late 1960's, Microflect has kept a fairly complete record of our custom structures. These records are indexed by the name of the original owner, the site name, the sales order number, and the serial number. Any one of these items can usually allow us to track your structure down.

Not all Microflect structures are custom. Some are standard, off the shelf items that are not associated with a serial number or a specific site. These are usually smaller structures and can be identified by a part number that is stamped onto each part of the structure.

Monopole Identification Stamp
Towers
The serial number is a four or five digit number stamped into a four-inch metal identification tag which is usually riveted to the base leg of the structure. In recent years these tags are blue in color, earlier tags are red. If you are in possession of a Microflect drawing of the structure, you can find the sales order number in the title block. It is a five digit number preceded by "SO" or "PN". Customer names and site names are also usually found in the title block. The drawing number is also found in the title block, typically starting with "A", "B", "C", or "D", followed by a five or six digit number. Other information that may be helpful includes the model number, structure height, and age of structure. This is especially true if there is more than one structure at a site.

Tapered Monopoles
If your structure is a Valmont tapered monopole, you can find the pole identification number stamped into a plate bolted or welded onto the pole shaft at approximately eye level. This plate is galvanized along with the shaft. A typical identification number would be "14705-01". For older poles, a part number will be stamped onto a galvanized welded plate typically located 5'-10' below the top of each pole section. A typical part number would be "153A". As in the case of the Microflect structure, other valuable information would include the site and customer names, height of the structure, order number, date of purchase and drawing numbers. An example of a drawing number for a tapered pole is "DD0145Z".
