Valmont

Microflect Company Inc. was founded in 1956 by brothers James and George Kreitzberg, both aeronautical engineers, who recognized the role that creative, precision engineering plays in the success of their clients projects and the success of the company itself. At the time, James had become involved in the design of a microwave system for Montana Power Company which required the use of large billboard-type passive repeaters. Since microwave telecommunications was a relatively new concept, passive repeaters were not readily available. An agreement was reached with Montana Power Company for James to design the passives. Fabrication of the aluminum panels was done at Kreitzberg Aviation, a company founded by George to perform aircraft modification and crop dusting. This was the beginning of Microflect.

In 1963 Richard Kreitzberg, a third brother, joined Microflect after receiving degrees in aeronautical and industrial engineering and performing a tour of duty in the Navy.

In 1966 James and Richard relocated from Butte, Montana, and, along with George, moved into the newly completed plant on 25th Street in Salem. This plant remains today as the core of the frequently expanded office and steel manufacturing facilities.

In July 31, 1995, Valmont Industries purchased Microflect. Then in the first quarter of 2001, Valmont consolidated Microflect with the newly acquired PiRod in Plymouth Indiana to form Specialty Structures, a segment of Engineered Structures of Valmont Industries. This consolidation was finalized in 2003 and functions within that group as of today.
