Valmont Industries, Inc. (NYSE: VMI) received five Nebraska’s Safest Companies awards from the National Safety Council, Nebraska at its 35th Annual Celebration of Safety on May 9, 2018. The award was established to recognize and celebrate companies that make safety a priority, have a commendable safety program and impeccable safety records based on their industry and size. Valmont earned the awards by demonstrating safety excellence at its Valley, McCook, Waverly, Columbus and West Point, Nebraska production facilities.
“The concentration of employees and facilities that we have in Nebraska makes these awards very gratifying,” said Steve Kaniewski, president and CEO of Valmont. “Safety is paramount at Valmont. The fact that every one of our Nebraska facilities received this award shows us that safety continues to be a vital thread in the fabric of our culture.”
The Valley, Nebraska facility, which has garnered 13 Nebraska’s Safest Companies honors, is the company’s flagship facility, producing products and services for each of the company’s four business segments — Engineered Support Structures, Utility, Irrigation and Coatings. The four other facilities in Nebraska are also past recipients of the Nebraska’s Safest Companies awards. They include: McCook, Nebraska (a 6-time honoree); Waverly, Nebraska (a 3-time honoree); Columbus, Nebraska (a 2-time honoree); and West Point, Nebraska (a 2-time honoree).
“It’s one thing to say that safety is as the heart of everything we do at Valmont,” said Scott Shook, Corporate Director, Health & Safety. “This award demonstrates that our employees truly value safety, and are they putting safety practices to work every day across Nebraska.”
The Nebraska’s Safest Companies award criteria was based on the number of recordable cases, lost work days and DART (Days Away, Restricted or Transferred) rating compared to industry and like-sized company averages. By earning five Nebraska Safest Companies honors, Valmont has exhibited an exemplary safety record that outperforms national averages compared to their industry. The company has also implemented comprehensive safety programs at each facility.
“The award honors organizations that have achieved excellence in safety this past year, and we are proud to recognize their achievements in providing a safer Nebraska for their employees and their families,” said Eric Koeppe, President/CEO, National Safety Council, Nebraska.
