Q. What are Valmont’s Terms and Conditions?

A. Valmont’s Terms and Conditions are located in the Resource Library

Q. What wind zone should I use?

A. This is generally defined in the specification.  If no wind zone is called out in the specification, you can default to the AASHTO wind maps found in the Resource Library.  

Q. Is there a way I can create a drawing on your website?

A. Currently it is not available. If you need a drawing, please contact your Valmont Sales Representative.

ORDER INFORMATION

Q. How do I receive a foundation design?

A. Please contact your Valmont Sales Representative to order a foundation design. To locate your Valmont Sales Representative, please go to www.valmontstructures.com and look for the "Find a Valmont Representative" link in the upper right hand corner of the front page. Click on that and follow the instructions.

Q. How do I get information on my pole order?

A. Please contact your Valmont Sales Representative and they will be able to provide you with your required information.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Q. What are the advantages of using an aluminum pole over a concrete pole?

A. There are many advantages for using an aluminum pole. First, the total installed cost of an aluminum street lighting pole is less than a concrete pole. Second, an aluminum pole is less in weight versus a comparable concrete pole. Third, an aluminum pole is relative corrosion free. There is no reinforcing material that will rust if exposed to air and water. Fourth, these poles are easier to replace (if necessary) that concrete poles.

Q. How do I get a specification page of the pole details?

Q. What design code are your poles engineered to?

A. Depending on the requirements, Valmont can design to the current AASHTO codes, UBC or other various regional codes.

Q. I want to attach a set of banner arms to my city's street lighting poles. Is this difficult to do?

A. Valmont has manufactured banner arms for street lighting poles for many years. As each city's requirements have expanded over time, we have also generated many different types of banner arms for our lighting poles. Please contact your Valmont Sales Representative for their assistance.

Q. I am need of a custom pole design; something that I have not seen in your catalogs. How do I start this process?

A. Please contact your Valmont Sales Representative and they will be able to start the process for your custom poles. Valmont has manufactured a variety of custom poles throughout the United States.

Q. What do I do when my pole is vibrating?

A. Vibration is a unique phenomenon that occurs in any situation. Common methods for eliminating vibration include: a new pole design with a different cross section or larger base and pole sizes to the installation of vibration dampers. Contact Valmont and let us help you determine the best solution.

Q. Are vibration dampeners available?

A. Yes.  Valmont highly recommends vibration dampeners be included in certain specifications. Please specify this requirement on your purchase order or contact your Valmont Sales Representative.

FINISHES

Q. What’s the most durable finish for a light pole?

A. A durable, long-lived pole finish is dependent on the service conditions of the environment in which the pole is placed. Please consult with your Valmont Representative to select a finish that best matches the expectations of your service environment.

Q. Can you paint over a galvanized pole?

A. Various finishes can be applied over a galvanized pole. Please consult your Valmont Sales Representative for the finish that would address your exact requirements.

Q. What are some of the differences between anodizing and paint for aluminum poles?

A. Paint is a surface coating that lies on top of the substrate.  Anodizing is an electrochemical conversion process where the surface of the aluminum is converted to aluminum oxides.  

Q. Are custom colors available?

A. Yes. Please contact your Valmont Sales Representative and provide a color chip or RAL number.
