Turning the Tide Against Global Food Insecurity

October 18, 2024
Our global population is over 8 billion and counting, with projections to approach nearly 10 billion in the next 25 years. Currently, hundreds of millions of people are food insecure, with 600 million projected to be chronically undernourished by 2030. We are helping growers on the front lines of this rising global hunger crisis to transform agricultural operations for better results to fight food insecurity while grappling with barriers like climate change and water scarcity.
Turning the Tide Against Global Food Insecurity
Countries with some of the highest population concentrations and food insufficiency, such as the Middle Eastern and North African regions, have been working against the clock to grow enough food to feed everyone. Food security policies have helped fund some positive action to increase local production in these regions. However, the critical need for a more stable food supply has recently become even direr, mainly due to the pandemic and ongoing trade interruptions due to geopolitical instability. Farmers have begun embracing a viable economic and ecological option in these areas by using mechanized irrigation infrastructure like Valley irrigation pivots. More than 550,000 of our pivots already operate worldwide in more than 120 countries, covering around 73.5 million acres of farmland. In some areas, our irrigation solutions have helped successfully transform unproductive land into productive farmland. With the precision irrigation these pivots provide, trillions of gallons of water are saved annually worldwide. The water savings are about 40% when compared to flood irrigation methods. We understand every drop of water counts, and the stakes are higher than ever to grow more food for our global community. Together with our agricultural partners, we are changing the world for the better by conserving precious resources, transforming unproductive land and increasing yields sustainably. This level of agricultural infrastructure innovation is genuinely life-changing for the world as a whole, particularly in regions that need massive transformation the most to provide and thrive.
