First-ever solar tracker to earn circularity certification
First-ever solar tracker to earn circularity certification

November 11, 2024
In the EMEA Region, Valmont validated the Convert® Single-Axis Solar Tracker’s sustainable credentials beyond supporting clean energy production to also include sustainable manufacturing. The Convert tracker product line secured the very first New Circularity (NCI) Certificate Using its circularity index, the ICMQ Institute assessed how well we minimize resource consumption, waste generation, and environmental impact throughout the tracker’s life cycle.
First-ever solar tracker to earn circularity certification
  • Project
First New Circularity (NCI) Certificate from the ICMQ Institute
  • Location
    Italy
  • Challenge
Working with all suppliers, Valmont needed to document sustainable production processes as far as materials, energy, water and waste.
  • Solution
Valmont leveraged its strong relationships with existing suppliers to gather extensive data to demonstrate its life-cycle approach to the ICMQ.
Technical innovation in both products and processes is critical to transitioning the world to less carbon-intensive energy sources and ensuring that they are affordable, reliable and increasingly available. — Greg Turi, Group President, Solar and Telecom for Valmont. Valmont works to conserve resources and improve life around the world by providing products supporting energy transition. Valmont’s Convert® Single-Axis Solar Tracker, for one, optimizes photovoltaic (PV) panel angles to allow higher energy generation for the majority of daily sunlight hours and maximize total generation output for land used. Yet offering industry-leading technology is just one aspect of our commitment to sustainability. In the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, Valmont has secured the very first New Circularity (NCI) Certificate from the ICMQ Institute, a construction industry certification body. The award recognizes the Convert tracker’s production process efficiency in four areas: materials, energy, water, and waste. Securing the accreditation required a dedicated team gathering manufacturing life-cycle information from across the solar tracker’s supply chain./n/n “The most challenging activity was collecting the data to reveal the entire path of our product,” said Andrea Monni, a Valmont senior consultant in Rome. This required getting data and supporting documentation from all the suppliers and subcontractors we work with to build our highly customizable tracker.
